Wednesday December 21, 2011 at Frank: Literature, Hidden Ritual & Bitter Birds, doors 9:30pm – 407 Colorado Street, Austin TX – $5 cover, all ages - RSVP
So it’s been awhile, but this year it just seemed appropriate to bring back the “Red & White Winter Party” presented by Tangled Snark.
I guess you could say that it had been a tradition for me a few years in a row – a fun show to play right before or after the holidays with local bands and friends that live i
n Austin that had no where else to be during that strange week of Christmas.
These parties took place while I was still doing a lot of the local booking at Emo’s Inside (during the good ole days), and still had a good a
mount of friends and contacts from the college/art school scene that my band Red Leaves was acquainted with.
Looking back through the “archives” (haha), I found some pictures and flyers from one of the shows in 2007 with The Black, Christmas Special (Jason from Voxtrot & Belaire), Red Leaves, & School Police. Check out song: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer by Christmas Special to get a sense for the weird and fun vibes we had going with the quirky line-up of bands that year.
- Then there are a few pictures that I found on
the web by David Weaver here that make us all look so young.
So, here we are at 2011, and for this Red & White Winter Party on December 21st I was able to invite some familiar faces from “back in the day” to play with my new band Bitter Birds (opening the show at 10pm). Excited to have Literature as the headliner (with Kevin Adickes from Mothfight! & Spells), and then Hidden Ritual (with past Horse + Donkey lead singer Jaime Zuverza).
Show up to Frank wearing your best Red & White Attire!

November is a busy month in Austin for many local Artists, largely because of the E.A.S.T. Austin Studio Tours (celebrating it’s 10th year!). To add to the hype for Austin’s local Artists, Gallery Black Lagoon will be hosting Weekend Events to coincide with the E.A.S.T. Studio Tour dates and times. http://www.eastaustinstudiotour.com/
Be sure to check out bios and pics from the 15 Artists that will be featured at Gallery Black Lagoon’s “West of East” Group Exhibition here: http://galleryblacklagoon.wordpress.com/nov-12-west-of-east/
Another fun show put together by Lucy the Poodle Productions. Bitter Birds was excited to be on this bill with other local bands Megafauna & Chase Frank.

It seems more and more that Austin is becoming a “Festival City” or that all succesful music events have to somehow be themed. People don’t seem to go down to 6th street or Red River to just “go see some live music” anymore (or did they really ever?). From Tangled Snark Parties, to Lucy the Poodle Productions and themed shows like “Andy Warhol’s Birthday Party”, there is a new group of young booking agents who are finding that their job title is leaning towards being an “event or party planner.”
This seems to be the case for my Art, Music, Promotion booking venture Tangled Snark. Teaming up with San Francisco transplant, music reviewer Lulu McAllister, we bring you a very promising event on Saturday October. 16th!
Local bands Missions & Hatchet Wound headline the show, while DJs Acid Abe and Faith Gay start off the night at 9pm.
The theme of this event titled: “Un-Birthday: A Mad-Hatted Affair” – is somewhat of a costume party. Attendees are encourage to wear a hat, any type will do, but creativity is definitely encouraged. If you don’t have any cool hats, we have that covered for you! Local milliners Milli Starr, Tula Hats, Chia Guillory, and MC Woodward will be setup selling their hats at the event, so there will be no excuse for not participating!
Where: Gallery Black Lagoon, 4301 A. Guadalupe St, Austin
Admittance (21 & up): $2 with hat, $5 without
Show starts at 9pm!
RSVP on Facebook, and pick this event on DO512.com

Every year local Austinites get overwhelmed by the increasingly popular/crowded music related festivals hosted in our fine city. The biggest turn-off for locals: the majority of bands at these big festivals and conferences are from out of town.
So, this year Lucy the Poodle, Tangled Snark, & Transmission Entertainment have teamed up to support a very cool (and FREE) alternative to ACL weekend – the first ever “Ditch the Fest” Music Festival.
The festival will showcase over 40 bands (the majority of them from right here in Austin!), on 4 rotating stages. In addition to some great local music, there will be a Moon Walk, Refreshments, Vegan/Vegetarian Options and other concessions available for your enjoyment.
Where: “Ditch The Fest” Fest at Cheer Up Charlie’s -
1104 E. 6th Street, Austin TX 78702
Saturday, October 9th, 2010, 12pm – 2am
FREE, ALL AGES
